We envision a vibrant and resilient Sephardi Jewish Community in Cape Town, rooted in our rich cultural heritage and guided by tradition, unity, and compassion. By preserving and celebrating our unique Sephardi heritage, we ensure it is passed down with pride and reverence to future generations. Our goal is a flourishing community that enriches its members’ lives and positively contributes to broader society, ensuring our cultural legacy endures.

Contribute to the success of our Kehila and participate in achieving this vision for yourself, your family, and your community.

You might be here every morning for minyan or only come once a year on Kol Nidrei. Either way, you know that Sephardi Hebrew Congregation is an inclusive community sustaining Jewish Sephardi Heritage in South Africa.

Everyone has something to share, that is the spirit of our community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteerism is at the heart of community life, and here at the Sephardi Hebrew Congregation, our volunteers help foster a flourishing and vibrant community. Volunteering also enables you to share your skills, interests and talents with our larger community. It provides you with the reward of giving back to your community, while getting to know other members.

We invite each congregant to shape and nurture the synagogue and the future of the community by volunteering their skills and talents. Many volunteer opportunities ask for very small time commitments, but it all adds up.

(There is no requirement that volunteers serve on the Committee or attend Committee Meetings).

Below is a list of some of our volunteer opportunities. Please consider volunteering for one or more of these activities – or suggest a new one – by filling out the form below, or getting in touch with our Membership Co-ordinator by email, [email protected], and we will be in touch with you shortly.

Thank you for caring!

The Sephardi Hebrew Congregation offers opportunities for members to purchase plaques in celebration of lifecycle events, achievement, or to memorialise their loved ones.

A Simcha plaque on our Tree of Life is intended to commemorate a happy event, such as a birth, a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, a wedding, an anniversary, or to honour a Loved one. Donors often purchase a Simcha plaque in advance so that it can be installed just prior to the event.

It is a widely observed Jewish tradition to commemorate the passing of a relative or loved one on the walls within a Kehila. A memorial to a deceased loved one can be placed on our Zechirah board.
